Empowerment Camps and Clinics
Sally Roberts, a 2X World Bronze Medalist and 4X National Champion and members of the women’s national wrestling team will travel to low-income and underserved communities. Their goal is to empower young female athletes through the sport of wrestling. Athletes will learn technical wrestling. They will be able to develop championship skills like goal-setting, with an emphasis through hard work. Every camper and clinic attendee will receive a ‘Wrestle Like A Girl’ handbook, which will support learning of nutrition, hydration and sport psychology.
CAMPER AND CLINIC SCHOLARSHIPS
Our goal is to be able to provide scholarships to campers and clinic attendees who wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate due to financial hardship.
PATRICIA MIRANDA ACADEMIC
Patricia Miranda was the first Olympic medalist in the history of women’s wrestling. Her athletic career was hard fought from an early age. Her father only agreed to let her wrestle in high school if she maintained a 4.0 average. Ms. Miranda not only achieved a 4.0, but also went onto Stanford to wrestle. She was the first woman at Stanford to enter a lineup and wrestle a match. After competing at the Beijing Olympics, Ms. Miranda went onto earn her law degree at Yale. Currently, she is an immigration lawyer in California advocating for basic human rights.
A scholarship of $10,000.00 will be awarded annually to one girl in honor of Patricia Miranda. The recipient will be a high school female wrestler who has excelled in athletics, academics, and civil service and has been accepted to a 4-year accredited, academic institution. Minimum GPA required 3.5
KGOTS SCHOLARSHIPS (KEEP GIRLS OFF THE STREETS)
Awarded to a high school female wrestler that has completed a high school wrestling program. Recipient must be accepted to a state college and have financial needs. Minimum GPA required 2.7
High School Female Wrestling Support & Initiatives
The Wrestle Like A Girl organization has a strong commitment to the growth and development of female wrestling in the United States by providing opportunities to wrestle at the high school level. It is the goal of Wrestle Like A Girl to support the start-up of new high school wrestling programs and increase the number of sanctioned girls high school state tournaments across the United States.
